Thea Porters pieces are amazing! Like their Ossie Clark counterparts they are cut to really transform once on a body. Thea based her designs on the fabrics and how it moved and draped. She then designed a dress to suit the woman who would wear it and to really highlight the chosen fabric. She chose the fabrics she was drawn to on a personal basis then built her collections around them. This is an excellent example of just that. The base fabric is cut silk velvet - luxurious to see and feel. To contrast that she built in crepe silk chiffon panels but with knife edged pleating - this offers high contrast tot eh softness and romance of the velvet. The silk velvet has an almost non velvet aura as it is done in a high relief design on black chiffon. Dramatic and exotic touches abound from there! Knife pleated textured, crepe silk chiffon is set in inverted V insets from the waist so the bottom of the skirt. It lies somewhat sleekly and in a gentle A-line until you move and then the miles of fabric creates a fabulous fluidity and fullness. This same knife pleats are done on each wide, flowing sleeve. The collar is exaggerated and pointed and sits above a deep plunge. Faceted jet black beads add the last perfect contrast. Museum quality and in excellent condition! Item# 2-DD454
